On October 11, 2019, at the new experimental training ground of the Vinogradovsky open-pit mine, Kuzbasskaya Toplivnaya Company PJSC, together with specialists from the Kuzbass Botanical Garden, for the first time applied a new unique mechanized method for restoring steppe vegetation on dumps.
PJSC "KTK" began sowing work to restore the steppe vegetation of disturbed lands. This is the unique and first experience in the Kuzbass of mechanized land restoration.
Recall that at the end of September KTK PJSC acquired new equipment to restore steppe vegetation and preserve biodiversity on dumps. The roll grinder (IR-1.8) will be used to introduce a new technology - the mechanization of the restoration of the steppe on dumps. The roll of hay mowed at the experimental landfills is automatically placed in the chopper, processed and, with the help of a blower, evenly spreads over a distance of 20 meters. It is assumed that due to mechanical mulching the seeds will fall on fertile soil, favorable conditions will be created for high-quality ripening. As a result, the percentage of seed germination and the coverage area will increase and, accordingly, the terms of land reclamation will decrease. Also, this method of mechanization will allow to sow seeds, including slopes.
“The experiment showed that it is possible to restore the steppe with a projective cover of 70% and about 30 species of steppe plants. 4 years of observations at experimental sites showed that the structure of the community is becoming more complicated, plants bear fruit and do not fall out of the community, but rather also settle in the adjacent territory. Therefore, specifically for the mechanization of the restoration of the steppe on the dumps, the management of KTK PJSC decided to purchase this equipment, ”commented Yuri Manakov, Doctor of Biological Sciences, Head of the Laboratory for Environmental Assessment and Biodiversity Management.
