Results of restoration of the steppe

In light of current requirements to the environmental quality restoration of steppes is more beneficial than creation of pasture lands and hayfields where only 2-3 forage pants are applied. Therefore the reclamation projects of our enterprises will be specifically focused on this technology

We restore natural vegetation of the disturbed lands

Since 2012 PJSC KTK has been conducting a long-term monitoring of the condition of the vegetation cover adversely affected by open-pit coal mining.
Since 2014 the experiments have been conducted at the Vinogradovsky Open-pit Mine to restore the natural steppe vegetation of the Karakan Ridge. There was created an experimental test site on the external overburden dump of the mine.

The scientists planted 4 ha of the dump with the grass-and-seed mixture of steppe plants. Following the results of the experiment it took only two years to form the vegetation cover with the 70% projective cover and input of over than 30 species of steppe and meadow plants.

The steppe restored on the dump has evidenced the effectiveness of the technology. We have received plain evidence that it was possible to use this technology to restore the disturbed lands and we resolved to put this technology in place in corporate projects of reclamation of lands.

Vinogradovsky Open-pit Mine

We use the technology of internal dumping

Mounds of subsurface rocks formed during coal mining are called dumps. Dumps may be internal and external ones. If the dumps are located in the mined-out area inside the pit outline, they are called external dumps.

During excavation of subsurface rocks we use the technology of external dumping. External dumps do less damage to the environment.
