Total coal reserves-in-place in Russia amount to 6.8 trillion tons, 1,200 billion tons of which are proved and probable. Primary coal production facilities are located in Siberia and the Far East.
The Company’s goal set by the local government of the Kemerovo region was to assure a stable supply of coal to local population and public utilities. Since then КТК has become the largest coal supplier for public utilities, municipal bodies and retail customers in the area.
The open-pit mine Cheremshansky was commissioned in May 2008. Its design capacity is 5 mln tons per year. Coal is mined by the open-cut method with the use of block technology and automobile transport. Initially, the top sandy layer of the overburden is removed to load overburden into dump trucks for disposal in dumps or worked-out pits. Once the hard layer of overburden is exposed, it is then drilled and blasted to prepare it for excavation, excavated and removed by trucks for disposal in dumps. The open-pit mine Cheremshansky is part of the Prokopyevsky and Belovsky districts of the Kemerovo region. The field is located on the south-west slope of the Karakansky chain. Coal reserves consist exclusively of grade “D” coal. Coals extracted have low ash and sulphur content, high heat value, and are used in power generation.

The Karakansky-South open-pit mine was commissioned in 2000 with a capacity of 1,700 thousand tons a year. Coal is mined at open-pits without the use of automobile transport. The Karakansky open-pit mine operates the following three licensed sites: Karakansky-South, Karakansky-South-1 and Karakansky-South-2. Technically, these sites are located in the Prokopyevsky and Belovsky district of the Kemerovo region. Coal reserves consist of grade “D” coal only. Coals extracted have low ash and sulphur content, high heat value, and are used in power generation.

The Vinogradovsky open-pit mine was commissioned in August 2004 with a capacity of 3 mln tons a year. Coal is mined at open-pits and transported in blocks by automobile transport. The Vinogradovsky open-pit mine is located in the Belovsky district of the Kemerovo region, within the territory of the Karakansky stone-coal deposit. Vinogradovsky operates two licensed sites: Vinogradovsky and Vinogradovsky-2. Coal reserves consist of grade “D” coal only. Coals extracted have low ash and sulphur content, high heat value, and are used in power generation.
Extracting thickness of coal ranges: | from 18° to 63° |
Gross thickness of coal bed: | 120.3 m |
Average ash content: | 10,7–21,9% |
Coal humidity: | 8.5–18.2% |
Heat value: | 6250–7200 kcal/kg |
The Bryansky open-pit mine was commissioned in 2015 with a capacity of 3 mln tons a year. Coal is mined by the open-pit method. The overburden is removed with transport technology (the overburden is transported for disposal in external and internal dumps) and without transport technology by dumping the overburden into the mined-out space. Technically, the site is located in the Belovsky district and Prokopyevsky district in Kemerovo region. Coal reserves consist of grade «D» coal only. Coals extracted have low ash and sulphur content, high heat value, and are used in power generation.
