Kuzbass Fuel Company organized the release of about 4,000 nelma fry into the Tom River

In 2024, Kuzbass Fuel Company JSC, at its own expense, together with Tomsk Fish Hatchery Complex LLC, held an event for the next release of juvenile salmon into the Tom River in the city of Seversk, Tomsk Region.
3,742 fry with a total weight of more than 13 kilograms, in the presence of representatives of the Verkhneobsky territorial department of the Federal Fisheries Agency, were released into free swimming along the main waterway of Kuzbass.
Over the past six years (from 2019 to 2024), the Vinogradovsky open-pit mine of the Kuzbass Fuel Company released about 22,500 juvenile nelma with a total weight of over 68 kilograms into the Tom River to restore water resources. As environmental specialists at the mine note, such measures help ensure the preservation of the biological diversity of Siberia.
Note that nelma, or white fish, is listed in the Red Book of Kuzbass and is a fish species with a steadily declining population. In the fall, it rises to the upper reaches of the Tom River, as well as its tributaries Condom and Mrassu, to spawn. This fish can also be caught in Kuzbass in the Kiya and Chulym rivers. Nelma is the largest representative of the whitefish. Under favorable conditions, this species of fish reaches a length of more than a meter. The average weight of nelma ranges from 5 to 10 kilograms.
