At the Vinogradovsky open pit mine, specialists from the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations' Paramilitary Mine Rescue Unit participated in training exercises on providing assistance to a miner injured in an accident and extinguishing a dry grass fire.
The training began with dispatchers practicing alerting all mine managers and emergency response services about an emergency situation in one of the mountain sections. Miners from the auxiliary mine rescue team (AMRT) and the open-pit mine's medical center quickly arrived at the suspected accident site. First aid procedures were practiced on site, as well as evacuation from the driver's cabin using a flexible stretcher. Another important topic of the practical training was extinguishing dry grass fires. A volunteer fire brigade arrived on the scene in a fire truck after receiving an alarm about signs of a fire in a natural area on the company's premises. Volunteers from the open pit mine practiced fire suppression, deploying a hose line from both a tanker and an accessible fire hydrant. Miners also used backpack fire extinguishers to extinguish a simulated fire. A first aid team provided practical assistance to a miner who suffered carbon monoxide poisoning while fighting the fire.
"You can read the emergency instructions a thousand times, but only practical application of the theoretical rules will help you act quickly and correctly. Therefore, our mine's specialists regularly participate in training and practical exercises to address emergencies and incidents, during which organizational and technical deficiencies are identified and addressed. This time, professional mine rescuers from the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations observed the training, and they provided helpful recommendations for improving the operations of the mine's emergency rescue teams," said Vyacheslav Deryabin, Head of the Department for Mobilization, Civil Defense, and Emergencies at JSC KTK.
In addition to training sessions, preventative fire prevention measures include seasonal plowing of natural areas adjacent to the open pit mine. This year, the length of firebreaks was approximately 10 kilometers.
