As part of a long-term program to preserve biodiversity and minimize the ecological footprint of industrial activities, specialists from Kuzbass Fuel Company JSC conducted an annual release of juvenile commercial fish.
The event took place on the Tom River with the participation of representatives of the Upper Jurassic Territorial Administration of the Federal Agency for Fisheries. Experts from Tomsk Fish Farming Complex LLC carried out the stocking of the reservoir. A total of over 3,700 juveniles of the valuable whitefish, nelma, were released into the natural habitat.
Over the past eight years, JSC KTK has supported the reproduction of valuable fish species totaling over 27,000 individuals with a total weight of approximately 85 kilograms, offsetting the impact of coal mining on aquatic ecosystems.
This approach not only reduces the environmental impact of the company's operations but also consistently contributes to the preservation and restoration of Siberian aquatic systems. The presence of independent observers from the Federal Agency for Fisheries confirms the transparency and legitimacy of these activities.
For reference: The nelma (Stenodus leucichthys nelma), also known as the whitefish, is the largest member of the whitefish family. Under favorable conditions, individuals can reach lengths of over one meter. The species is listed in the Kuzbass Red Data Book due to its steadily declining population due to anthropogenic factors and climate change. The release of this particular species underscores the project's focus on preserving the most vulnerable parts of the local ecosystem.
