Kuzbasskaya Toplivnaya Company PJSC Reports Fourth Quarter and Full Year 2016 Operating Results

KEMEROVO, Russian Federation—January31, 20172:00 PM(UTC+7:00)—Kuzbasskaya Toplivnaya Company PJSC (KTK, MICEX: KBTK), one of the largest producers and exporters of thermal coal in Russia, today announced operating results for the fourth quarter and full year ended December 31,2016.

  • In the fourth quarter of 2016 the Company produced 3.12 million tonnes of coal, an insignificant increase both quarter-over-quarter and over the year-ago period.
  • The volume of commercial products remained at the level of previous periods, reaching 2.7 million tonnes.
  • Coal processing remained just about at the year-ago level, falling by a mere 2%, and amounted to 2.11 million tonnes, which is 12% less than in the third quarter of 2016.
  • Total coal washing rose by 3% compared to the 2015 indicator, to 1.02million tonnes, of which 75% belongs to the Kaskad2 washing plant.
  • Coal sorting volume fell by 21% compared to the third quarter of 2016 and by 11% to the year-ago level, and amounted to 1.09million tonnes.
  • The volume of blasted rock mass was 8.87 million cbm, a slight decrease for the quarter and 8% less compared to the year-ago period.

  • In the fourth quarter sales grew by 11% versus the volume of the previous quarter, reaching 3.27 million tonnes of coal. Year-over-year this figure shows a contraction by 4%. Fourth-quarter export sales insignificantly fell by 0.5% to the third-quarter level, to 1.93 million tonnes, while compared to the year-ago period, the share of export in total sales grew by 8%.
  • For the quarter, the share of export in total sales was 59%.
  • Domestic sales in the fourth quarter demonstrate a seasonal growth of 35% to 1.34 million tonnes.
  • The share of domestic sales was 89%, while coal resale declined by 20% and 26%, respectively.
  • Average coal selling price slightly rose compared to the third-quarter level by 10% and by 7% compared to the fourth quarter of the last year.

For the full year 2016 the Company produced 11.68 million tonnes of coal, which is 6% more than in 2015.

Commercial product volume in 2016 stood at 10.12 million tonnes, an increase of 5% in yearly terms. Coal processing amounted to 8.83 million tonnes, 6% more than in 2015.

The share of processed coal in the commercial products was 87%.

Total coal washing grew by 10% to 4.11 million tonnes.

Coal sorting volume increased slightly, by 3%, to 4.71 million tonnes.

The volume of blasted rock mass was 33.56 million cbm, a decline by 5%.

The average stripping transportation distance in the period dropped by 2% year-over-year and reached 2.55 km.

In 2016 sales increased by 4% versus the volume of the previous year, reaching 11.11 million tonnes of coal.

Export sales amountedto7.47 million tonnes, representing 67% of total sales. Domestic-market coal sales fell by 8% compared to 2015, to 3.63 million tonnes.

Own-coal sales share was 91%.

Coal resale share declined by 18% compared to the year-ago level. Average selling price decreased by 4% compared to the level of year 2016.

 

On April 6, 2017 the Company is planning to release its consolidated audited IFRS financial statements for the full year2016.
